Soul ecology:  A responsibility to the things of the world based on appreciation and relatedness rather than on abstract principle (Care of the Soul, Thomas Moore, 1992:  270).  Also from the same book, ‘we can only treat badly those things whose souls we disregard’.

Now I know the name of what I feel for my City’s trees, hills, and mountaintops.  Soul-ecology.  In a previous article, I mentioned of the artist’ Jaar’s continuing search for balance between information and poetry, the ethical and the aesthetic.  That balance is soul-ecology.
