The movie, the real-life story of underground fighters of the French Resistance, was released in the US 37 years after its production, in 2006.
These resistance fighters were all arrested on varying dates by the Nazis: Luc died under torture after revealing one name, his own; Philippe; Le Bison had just enough time to swallow his cyanide capsule; Le Masque was decapitated with an axe.
I have no words to describe these men’s courage. The story shows that courage and fear are both latent in the individual. One isn’t brave all the time nor fearful all the time. In the men’s case, they are gripped by fear when they didn’t have a handle on things. Information and knowledge dissipated fear.
